Sextus Pompey, 43-35 BC. Denarius (Subaeratus, 18 mm, 3.65 g, 10 h), a contemporary plated imitation of an issue from Sicily, uncertain mint, after 37-36 BC. MAG•PIVS•[IMP ITER] Bare head of Cn. Pompeius Magnus to right; to left, jug; to right, lituus. Rev. [PRAEF] / CLAS•ET•ORAE / MARIT•EX•S•C Neptune standing left, holding aplustre in his right hand and resting his right foot on prow; to left and right, the brothers Anapias and Amphinomus, with their parents on their shoulders, running in opposite directions. Cf. Babelon (Pompeia) 27, Crawford 511/3a, RBW 1785 and Sydenham 1344 (for prototype). Minor breaks in plating and with light scratches, otherwise, nearly very fine.
